Gulshan provides the full range of NHS and private dental treatments.

Gulshan studied Dentistry at Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera, Valencia (Vlc) Spain and joined us in September 2016 following her graduation. Prior to that, Gulshan gained extensive experience at the practice in both dental nursing and dental therapy. She is currently undertaking a Restorative Masters at the Eastman Dental Institute, UCL.

Gulshan has a particular interest in transforming patients’ smiles through Invisalign, teeth whitening and composite bonding.

In her spare time, Gulshan enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling, photography and playing netball.

Laura, who hails from Sunderland, joined Honour Health’s Jesmond practice in August 2019.

She graduated from Leeds Dental School with a MChD / BChD in Dental Surgery and worked at a busy NHS and private dental practice in Hull, performing a full range of treatments for new and regular patients, before returning to her native North East.

Having gained experience in treating patients with high levels of dental anxiety, Laura has developed skills in restoring patients’ confidence using minimally invasive restorative techniques, and enjoys helping them achieve smiles they love.

Laura has a passion for cookery, travelling and keeping fit. She regularly visits the gym and has completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise funds for charity.

Andrew Barr

Dental Surgeon (BDS)

Andrew, who works at our Stanley practice, grew up in Scotland and graduated as a dental surgeon from Glasgow University in 2017. He previously worked in a large Glasgow suburb practice, where he gained experience in all aspects of dentistry, formulated complex treatment plans, and supported trainee dental nurses through their training.

He is nearing completion of his Diploma of Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Andrew moved to the North East in 2018 to work at a busy practice in Durham, working extensively in both NHS and private dentistry. In particular, he has a special interest in providing restorative and aesthetic treatments to help patients love their smiles.

He is a qualified Invisalign GO provider, meaning that he can use clear, removable braces to treat patients who would like straight teeth.

In his spare time, Andrew enjoys hill walking and going to the gym, and is an avid rock climber, having previously competed for Scotland. He also takes part in a range of water sports including water-skiing, wakeboarding and kayaking.

Dental Therapist

Caroline joined Honour Health in March 2016 and works as a dental therapist at our Ponteland practice. She was shortlisted as a Finalist for ‘Therapist of the Year 2019’ at the prestigious Dental Awards.

Caroline studied her Diploma in Dental Hygiene & Therapy at Newcastle University, graduating in December 2015.  She worked as a dental nurse for eight years prior to becoming a dental therapist, giving her an excellent insight into the world of dentistry, and she is a member of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy.

Caroline likes to stay up-to-date in her clinical recommendations to patients by regularly liaising with dental representatives about new products and procedures, and evaluating the clinical evidence used to endorse them. As her role focuses on managing and promoting good oral hygiene practices, she is particularly interested in novel plaque-removal products such as toothbrushes and interdental cleaning aids.

In the short-term, Caroline is planning to expand her clinical repertoire to include tooth whitening, and, in the long-term, she aims to be involved in dental research and education.

Outside of work, Caroline’s little boy keeps her on her toes, and they love going on adventures! Caroline is passionate about animal welfare and rights, and she follows a vegetarian diet. She also loves running and has recently taken up yoga, which she believes not only helps with strength and flexibility, but offers a fantastic opportunity for self-reflection and stress-relief after a busy day!

Michael joined our Jesmond practice in September 2018, having previously worked at a dental practice in Stockton.

Michael graduated in graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Newcastle University. He also holds an MSc in Endodontics, and has a particular interest in this area of dentistry.

Michael has worked extensively in NHS and private dentistry in the North East since his graduation. Having spent his university years in Newcastle, he is delighted to be returning to the city and working here in Jesmond.

Outside of work, Michael enjoys golfing and spending time with family.

Neesha joined our Jesmond practice in September 2018, having worked extensively in NHS and private dentistry at several practices in Yorkshire.

Neesha graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Newcastle University. She is currently working towards a Post Graduate Diploma in Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry and is a certified Invisalign practitioner.

Having grown up in Newcastle, Neesha is very happy to be back in the North East and working here in Jesmond.

Neesha has a particular interest in offering aesthetic treatments to enable patients to obtain the smile they have always wanted, and working with nervous patients to change their perceptions of dentistry.

Outside of work, Neesha enjoys cooking, travelling, running and is kept busy with her two young children!

Xander Howell

Dental Surgeon (BDS, MFDS RCS Ed, PGDip Endo)

Xander qualified from the University of Manchester in 2012 and undertook a two-year training position based at a dental practice in Gateshead and at Newcastle Dental Hospital. He spent time working with specialists in Restorative Dentistry, Paediatric Dentistry and Oral Surgery, performing and assisting with advanced dental procedures. At the end of this training programme in 2014 he was awarded the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners prize for his completed portfolio.

Xander then spent a year working with the Oral and Maxillofacial team at Sunderland Royal Hospital, working in A&E, on the wards and in theatre. Here he carried out difficult surgical extractions, managed facial trauma and assisted with operations to remove oral cancers, further developing his oral surgery skills.

He has since worked extensively in NHS and private dental care at three busy dental practices across the North East – including working as the lead clinician in a small NHS practice.

Xander became a member of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons (MFDS) at the Royal College in Edinburgh in 2013. He is a member of the British Endodontic Society and a published author on the topics of Dental Education and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Xander has a keen interest in Endodontics (root canal treatment), and he is currently completing a Masters Degree in Endodontics from the University of Chester. He also has a special interest in restorative dentistry and oral surgery.

Outside of dentistry Xander enjoys spending time with his young family (and his small flock of chickens!), going for walks in Northumberland and up the coast, and is a keen follower of Rugby Union.

David Ford

David is a dentist at our Stanley practice. He joined us as a foundation dentist in August 2018 following his graduation from Newcastle University and became an associate dentist here in August 2019.

David really enjoys working with children. Since joining our Stanley practice, he has worked closely with the dental charity Teeth Team, which involves visiting local primary school children in Stanley to educate them about good dental health and conduct dental health assessments in their classrooms.

Outside of work, David is a kayak coach and enjoys paddles along the coast. He loves travel and spending time with his family. Currently, David is trying to learn Albanian (his girlfriend is from Kosovo).

Lee Histed

Lee joined our Stanley practice in October 2019. He studied Dentistry at Newcastle University and has worked extensively in NHS and private dental care for almost 20 years, at several busy practices across the North East.

He also spent time working as a dentist in three states of Australia earlier in his career.

Lee has completed a comprehensive course on cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry, as he has a particular interest in this area. He enjoys carrying out aesthetic treatments to help patients feel confident about their smiles.

In his spare time Lee enjoys spending time with his family, playing rugby for Novocastrians RFC, bike riding and recently competing in triathlons.

Ana Ionescu

Ana graduated from Newcastle University in 2017, having studied Dental Surgery, and she worked in a high needs NHS practice prior to joining the Honour Health team in Stanley.

Ana is a qualified Invisalign Go practitioner, meaning that she can use clear, removable braces to treat patients who would like straight teeth. Ana is also working towards completing her Diploma of Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons (MFDS) of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Ana most enjoys seeing the faces of (initially highly anxious) patients when they realise they have fully put their trust in her and have completed their entire treatment plan, improving their confidence in the dental profession. Ana loves seeing innovations in her career, especially with Invisalign, where treatment is a lot less invasive and results are reliable and beautiful. She also enjoys working with composite to improve patients’ smiles.

In her spare time, Ana leads an active lifestyle, and her passions are indoor competitive volleyball, beach volleyball and ballet. She also has a red belt in Taekwondo and enjoys kickboxing.

Ana grew up travelling with her parents and living in many countries, due to their careers. As a result, she speaks several languages, and really enjoys learning new ones.

Claire provides the full range of NHS and private dental treatments.

Claire is a member of the Local Dental Committee (LDC) and has worked in the dental industry for almost 20 years, having begun her career in 1998 as a dental nurse. She gained extensive experience in NHS and private practices in the North East, and decided to study to become a dental surgeon in 2007.

Claire has been a member of our Jesmond team since she graduated from Newcastle University in 2012. She completed her post-graduate training with us, and then became an associate at the practice.

Her dental nursing background has proved to be invaluable throughout her time with us, and it is a continual asset to the way she engages with her patients.

In particular, Claire enjoys treating nervous patients, by putting them at ease when they visit the practice, and helping restore them to good health.

Claire has great interest in aesthetic restorations, white fillings, whitening and restoring implants. She is a certified Invisalign practitioner and has had excellent results in transforming patients’ smiles with this almost invisible orthodontic treatment.

Away from surgery, Claire enjoys Muay Thai (martial arts), spending time with family and friends, and taking her three little dogs to the beach.

Onkar graduated as a dental surgeon from Newcastle University in 1985 and has been principal dental surgeon at Honour Health (formerly the Osborne Dental Group) since 1986.

Samantha Trestrail

Dental Hygienist

Samantha works as a dental hygienist at our Jesmond practice. She studied at the University of Bristol for two years to gain a Diploma in Dental Hygiene.

Previously Samantha undertook an apprenticeship in dental nursing, training at the University of Plymouth dental campus in Cornwall alongside dental students, which helped her to gain a lot of experience of working in the dental environment.

Samantha really enjoys treating patients with the use of our state of the art EMS Airflow system, which quickly, effectively removes biofilm and staining, revealing a healthier, brighter smile.

In the long term, Samantha is interested in potentially undertaking additional roles such as teeth whitening. As Samantha is new to the North East, she is also looking forward to meeting new people and discovering the local area.

In her spare time Samantha likes to go out on dog walks and go to the gym. She would also like to get back into swimming, as she had a break from it when at university, but used to compete to a high level when she was living in Cornwall.

Matthew Joll

Matthew provides the full range of NHS and private dental treatments.

Matthew holds a BDS from Newcastle upon Tyne and has completed an Implant Course at Sheffield University.

He completed his vocational training in Sunderland before joining our Stanley practice in 2002.

Matthew has been an educational trainer for foundation dentists for eight years and has a particular interest in sedation and implant work.

Outside of work, Matthew has three children, which keep him busy. He also enjoys going to watch his old rugby team (Medicals RFC) play. When he gets the chance, he likes to play golf, and loves skiing.
